1.                     Outside Operations Charge Hand

 

The Burin Peninsula Regional Service Board is a regional municipal authority managing and administering services relating to solid waste, wastewater, and municipal water systems, among other municipal services on the Burin Peninsula. The organization is currently hiring a full-time permanent Outside Operations Charge Hand. The Outside Operations Charge Hand will participate in outside operations activities while providing direction and oversight for Outside Operations staff.

 

The Outside Operations Charge Hand is responsible for monitoring project schedules and assigning related personnel tasks, as well as overseeing quality control and safety for site personnel and contractors. The Outside Operations Charge Hand reports directly to the General Manager, who oversees daily operations of the Burin Peninsula Regional Service Board.

 

Position Description

  • Coordinate daily logistics and personnel assignments associated with outside operations
  • Serve as point of contact on Outside Operations for all site personnel and management
  • Assist in procurement activities
  • Interpret project documentation, including technical drawings and specifications, and ensure adherence in operational processes 
  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment, and ensure personnel adherence to construction plans and safety codes
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites
  • Report to General Manager on all project activities and progress

Position Qualifications

  • 8+ years of field experience combined with completion of post-secondary training in Heavy Equipment Operations
  • Demonstrated competence in reviewing and interpreting civil and mechanical drawings
  • Experience in project and team management, safety, budgeting, quality control, and administration
  • Driver Licensing for Classes 3, 5, 8, and 9
  • Mechanical familiarity with all heavy equipment used on site.   
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office is an asset

2.                                         Scale Attendant

 

The Burin Peninsula Regional Service Board is a regional municipal authority managing and administering services relating to solid waste, wastewater, and municipal water systems, among other municipal services on the Burin Peninsula. The organization is currently hiring a full-time permanent Scale Attendant.

 

Reporting to the General Manager, the Scale Attendant will be involved in several facets of daily operations, with particular emphasis on operating site weigh scales, ensuring that each vehicle is properly weighed and charged for material delivered. The Scale Attendant directs vehicles to appropriate site areas and performs clerical and administrative work in support of site operations. Schedule of work for this position generally runs from Tuesday to Saturday, matching site hours of operation.

 

 Duties:

  • Provide prompt and courteous service to customers.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly positioned on scales for accurate weights.
  • Enter load information and customer/vehicle information into computer and operate computerized truck scale to determine weight of load.
  • Instruct drivers to appropriate off-loading areas
  • Monitor material contents to ensure compliance with disposal regulations.
  • Perform routine electronic and paper data entry
  • Maintain records of all incoming/outgoing loads
  • Answer incoming calls and field or direct enquiries
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Other related duties as required by the Board.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Office Administration or related field or minimum one to two years of related experience.
  • Written and oral communications skills.
  • Knowledge of typical business application software (Microsoft Office/Excel and Word)
  • Knowledge of Simply Accounting would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of solid waste management industry is an asset.
  • Experience operating scales is an asset.
  • Code of Conduct required.
